This past weekend of local high school football was marked by statement victories. From The St. James stunning a national power in Virginia to Seneca Valley breaking a decade-long drought against a crosstown rival, this week’s crop of All-DMV Players of the Week showed up in big moments. Here’s who stood out in Week 7:
Kash Carter, Junior, Quarterback, The St. James
The St. James earned a program-defining victory this weekend, knocking off national powerhouse St. Frances Academy, 28-20. St. Frances entered the matchup ranked second in the nation by MaxPreps and was in the midst of a 13-game winning streak spanning two seasons.

Carter threw for three touchdowns in the win, an impressive encore to his five-touchdown showing against IMG Academy last week. Carter’s efficient play has helped catalyze The St. James’ ascendance, a rapid rise that has brought national buzz to the D.C. area.
Zeke Hubbard, Senior, Defensive Back, Eastern
Before Friday’s matchup against rival Theodore Roosevelt, Hubbard scribbled the letters “POTY” on a black strip of tape that he stuck to his face. The acronym, short for “Player of the Year,” was intended as a message to the rest of the D.C. Interscholastic Athletic Association.
“These are the games I’m built for,” Hubbard told Eastern coach Roman Morris before the game.
Hubbard backed up that statement with a sterling defensive performance as the Ramblers earned a comeback 20-12 win over the Roughriders. The senior didn’t allow a catch to Roosevelt’s top target and was the driving force behind a second half comeback that gave Eastern its fourth straight victory and third in league play.
Khamarion Imes, Senior, Athlete, Seneca Valley
For the first time in over a decade, Seneca Valley won the “Battle of Germantown” against neighboring rival Northwest. Imes, who rotates between punter, kick returner, free safety, wide receiver and running back for the Eagles, accumulated more than 200 all-purpose yards and three rushing touchdowns in Friday’s 31-28 victory.
“He’s just a leader on the field with his play, he takes the slack off of a lot of the other players to play relaxed and play free,” Seneca Valley coach Quintin Cosby said. “Just a phenomenal ball player.”
Chace Irvin, Junior, Wide Receiver, DeMatha
Irvin produced two jaw-dropping plays in DeMatha’s 35-0 shutout win over Washington Catholic Athletic Conference rival Good Counsel on Friday. The first came in the opening quarter, when the junior reeled in a leaping one-handed touchdown snag from quarterback Tristan Sabb.
Later in the game, with DeMatha pinned deep in its own territory, Sabb found Irvin streaking across the middle. He took it 89 yards to the end zone as the Stags put a running clock on the Falcons.
Will Smoot, Senior, Running Back, Madison
Smoot made his season debut last week for Madison against Virginia Class 6 contender Westfield and quickly made his mark. The senior rushed for 167 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries as the Warhawks downed the Bulldogs, 20-6, for their fifth straight victory.
“Will is one of the really explosive guys that we have on our team,” Madison coach Justin Counts said. “We just know that if we execute and we make a hole for him, we’ve got an opportunity to score a touchdown every time he touches the ball.”
