Vance Says the Iran War and Inflation Cost Republicans the Midterms

A potential 2028 contender, Trump’s No. 2 also said voters want Republicans to “Put America First” and change the country’s relationship with Israel.

Vice President JD Vance said the reason Republicans lost Tuesday night’s midterm was “obvious to almost everyone.”

“The reason we lost is the war,” Vance wrote on X.

A potential 2028 presidential candidate, Vance said turnout was good, but many voters shifted to Democratic candidates — costing Republicans control of both congressional chambers.

Vance said a pollster asked those voters what would bring them back to the Republican Party. The pollster told him there were four key factors: ending the Iran war, focusing on cost of living and inflation, putting America first and changing the country’s relationship to Israel

The vice president said he felt “negative” going into Tuesday’s election and was shocked when the pollster told him they would “lose the general ballot by 13 points.” By Tuesday night, Democrats flipped seats in historic deeply red states like Texas, Kansas and South Carolina.

Vance closed the lengthy social media post by apologizing for not heeding the warning that voters were worried about the war and affordability, but urging them to take their anger to the next election.

“To the people who are pissed off and want to say, ‘I told you so’: you’re right, you did tell us so,” Vance said. “Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview.”
