ARLINGTON, Texas — The Commanders fell to the Cowboys, 37-20, on Sunday in a game marked by a left elbow injury to quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Trailing 17-10 on the final play of the first half, Washington opted to go for it from Dallas’ 1-yard line rather than kick a field goal. Left guard Chris Paul inadvertently stepped on Daniels’ foot as the quarterback dropped back, causing Daniels to stumble to the ground and use his left arm to brace the fall. He was carted off after Washington made its way to the locker room.
Coach Dan Quinn said after the game that Daniels dislocated his left elbow and will undergo further tests this week. Daniels missed time last season with the same injury.
Washington started the game slow, finding itself in a 10-0 hole by the end of the first quarter. But the offense settled in during the second quarter, and the Commanders held most of the possession and momentum until Daniels went down.

The defense, maligned last week for allowing chunk plays against the Eagles, had a rough showing against Dallas’ high-powered offense. The unit struggled to stay in front of the Cowboys’ receivers and allowed four touchdown passes to quarterback Dak Prescott.
Marcus Mariota, Washington’s backup, played the entirety of the second half, going 11 of 16 for 111 yards and a touchdown. But the defense couldn’t stop the Cowboys and the game quickly slipped away.
Daniels’ injury was one of many on the day for Washington. Running back Rachaad White went into the medical tent in the second half, as did tight end Ben Sinnott and long snapper Tyler Ott. Left tackle Brandon Coleman exited with a finger injury in the third quarter, and defensive lineman Javon Kinlaw and right guard Sam Cosmi both exited in the fourth. Quinn said Cosmi is in concussion protocol.
