ARLINGTON, Texas — Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels fell awkwardly on his left elbow and was carted off the field at the end the first half against the Cowboys on Sunday.
On the final play of the first half, Washington opted to go for it from Dallas’ 1-yard line rather than kick a field goal. Left guard Chris Paul inadvertently stepped on Daniels’ foot as the quarterback dropped back, causing Daniels to stumble to the ground and use his left arm to brace the fall.
Daniels attempted to salvage the play by throwing it away, but the ball fell incomplete and the half ended with Washington down 17-10. Replays showed Daniels holding his left elbow. It was the same elbow he dislocated last year against the Seahawks.
Daniels had been playing well throughout the first half in Dallas. He started the game a perfect 7 of 7 before ending the half 11 of 17 for 96 yards and a touchdown. He also ran seven times for 66 yards.

Marcus Mariota, who started eight games in place of Daniels in 2025, replaced him in the second half. Shortly after halftime, Daniels was ruled out for the remainder of the game.
