Mystics center Shakira Austin continues to rack up honors after a career season.
On Saturday, Austin was named to the All-WNBA second team after a season in which she averaged 17 points and 9.5 rebounds. Austin, a Fredericksburg, Virginia, native, shot 48% from the field and led the team in total points, rebounds and blocks. She was also named to the WNBA’s All-Defensive first team on Oct. 15.
She finished fourth in voting for Defensive Player of the Year (won by Angel Reese) and ninth in MVP voting. Aces star A’ja Wilson was named MVP for a record fifth time and became the first player to win the honor in three consecutive seasons.
Austin, 26, is the seventh player in Mystics franchise history to be named to an all-league team and the first since Tina Charles in 2021. This season, she became the first Washington player and just the seventh player in WNBA history to post a 25-game streak of at least 10 points and five or more rebounds.
