U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro reported 140 personal financial trades since April, according to federal records maintained by the Office of Government Ethics.
Pirro’s trades include two stock purchases in companies led by Elon Musk, a top ally of President Donald Trump. She bought $1,001 to $15,000 worth of stock in Tesla Inc. on April 1 and $50,001 to $100,000 in SpaceX on Aug. 13, federal records indicate.
Pirro, who previously hosted “Justice with Judge Jeanine” on Fox News, appears to have disclosed the Tesla purchase and dozens of other individual stock trades after a 45-day federal deadline for doing so. Pirro’s disclosure says she received “a 90 day filing extension” — something not typically extended by law to periodic stock trade disclosures.
“DOJ ethics officials review U.S. Attorney Pirro’s financial disclosures and ensure she is properly recused from any matters involving entities in which she has a covered financial interest,” Tim Lauer, a spokesperson for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, told The Washington Sun. “In instances where a recusal is required the Principal Assistant United States Attorney serves as the attorney of record.”

Lauer’s statement did not address The Sun’s inquiry about the “90 day filing extension” or the potentially late trades.
Pirro made sizable single purchases in a number of individual stocks and exchange-traded funds: $250,001 to $500,000 in Federated Hermes Government Obligations Fund, $100,001 to $250,000 in PepsiCo, $50,001 to $100,000 in AT&T, and a number of other smaller buys throughout the year.
Pirro owns at least $15,001 worth of stock or bonds in each of around 40 companies. That dollar amount is the threshold at which she must recuse herself from matters should any one of those companies become party to a dispute.
Among those companies are Microsoft, Nvidia, JPMorgan, Uber, Netflix and Exxon Mobil.
Pirro is also an investor in restaurant CAVA and would be conflicted out of any case where the D.C.-based company is a party.
In an ethics agreement Pirro signed in July 2025, she agreed to divest some of her existing investments, including Ares Capital Corporation.
“The Office of Government Ethics (OGE) reviewed that holding last year and determined she needed to divest, which she did immediately in accordance with their guidance,” Lauer said.
In late June and July this year, Pirro bought VanEck BDC Income ETF, giving her a stake valued at $200,002 to $500,000. Ares Capital Corporation makes up over 14% of the fund, meaning she effectively owns $29,000 to $72,000 of Ares stock.
“She continues to work closely with OGE to ensure full compliance with all ethics requirements,” Lauer told The Sun. “OGE does not consider an investment holding within an ETF or mutual fund (of which there are many) to be a violation of the individual’s ethics agreement obligations regarding repurchasing, and she will continue coordinating with ethics officials to ensure she meets all obligations.”
Unlike many higher-ranking Trump administration officials, Pirro has continued to trade individual stocks during her service in government. Pirro is fully apprised of the funds she is personally trading, as her federal transaction reports bear her signature.
Pirro’s ethics agreement, signed before her confirmation last year, says that even if her trades were made by an “investment professional,” she would need to give “prior approval” for certain trades, such as the VanEck BDC Income ETF purchase.
