President Donald Trump says that Alaska Senate candidate Mary Peltola should face legal consequences and be barred from appearing on state ballots following reports that her campaign recruited a candidate to run in the election who shared the same name as her opponent, incumbent Sen. Dan Sullivan.

The New York Times reported Wednesday that Peltola campaign staffers and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee were allegedly involved in a monthslong scheme to stack the ballot with candidates and recruit other men named Dan Sullivan, all in the hopes of siphoning off votes from the Republican incumbent.

“Mary Peltola should suffer the Legal and Political consequences for what she has done, A FRAUD ON THE AMERICAN PUBLIC, and Dan Sullivan should be allowed to run without either Mary Peltola or FAKE Dan Sullivan on the Ballot,” Trump wrote on Truth Social Wednesday.

The Department of Justice has already filed a lawsuit seeking to block the certification of the Alaska Senate race if the Republican incumbent loses to Peltola.
