Forecasted Hurricane Forces Trump to Change His Football Plans

The president was scheduled to attend Saturday’s Alabama-Georgia game, but Hurricane Isaias is expected to make landfall on the Gulf Coast.

With a hurricane bearing down on the Gulf Coast, President Donald Trump will not attend the Alabama-Georgia game in Tuscaloosa this weekend as previously planned.

Trump said in a Truth Social post on Friday afternoon that “it is important to have our wonderful First Responders, Law Enforcement, and others, focused on that Storm, and in no way be thinking about the safety, or presence, of the President of the United States, ME!”

He added he hoped the “potentially unbelievable” game would go on, despite the weather, and he planned to visit both teams at a later date. Trump said he will instead travel to Tennessee for a campaign rally in an unnamed location.

Trump had been scheduled to travel to Bryant-Denny Stadium to watch Saturday night’s game, but Hurricane Isaias is expected to make landfall along Alabama’s coast and bring severe storms deeper into the state.

When asked Wednesday whether he still planned to travel to the game, Trump told reporters that he was unaware of the hurricane but indicated it could change his plans.

“If there’s a hurricane, I don’t want to do anything to take the focus of all of the great people that work on those things,” Trump said. “So we’ll have to see.”

The game would’ve been the second high-profile SEC game Trump had attended in the span of a few weeks. He took in the first half of the Tennessee-Texas game in Knoxville, Tennessee, on Sept. 26. And it would have been his second visit to Tuscaloosa to see Alabama play Georgia within the past two years. He attended in 2024 and remained for the entire game, which saw Alabama narrowly defeat the Bulldogs.
