Residents and businesses around Dulles International Airport can expect to hear more planes overhead in the coming months as one of the airport’s runways closes for maintenance.
Loudoun County officials said in a statement Friday that crews closed the airport’s center runway for planned maintenance and infrastructure improvements, requiring flights to take off from and land at the other two north-south runways at least through November.
Communities north, south and west of the airport, including South Riding, Stone Ridge, Ashburn, Sterling and Brambleton, will experience more flight traffic until the project is completed, according to the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.
The MWAA says the runway activity is consistent with approved Federal Aviation Administration flight paths and that planes arrive and depart from either the north or the south depending on wind patterns.
