The White House denied a report on Wednesday that President Donald Trump is considering adding his name to Ford’s Theatre as part of his push to put his mark on the city.
MS NOW reported earlier Wednesday that the administration has a list of sites that could bear the president’s name, including Ford’s Theatre, citing anonymous sources within the administration.
The theater — best known as the site of former President Abraham Lincoln’s assasination — is owned by the Interior Department and maintained by the National Park Service.
The Interior Department told The Washington Sun in a statement that the report “is not true.”

The White House also denied that any such plan is in the works.
“This story is completely false. The reality is that failing MS Now continues to push false and baseless claims from anonymous sources who have no clue what they’re talking about, which is exactly why their credibility is in the toilet. It is embarrassing to watch,” White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said in a statement to The Sun.
The administration has targeted MS NOW, along with Politico and CNN, with a ban from the White House for reporting what Trump called “fake news.”
The Ford’s Theatre Society did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Ford’s Theatre first opened as a Baptist church in 1834 before transitioning to a performance venue in the 1860s. It’s now a working venue and museum.
Trump has made multiple attempts to physically cement his presidential legacy in the capital region. Along with the U.S. Institute of Peace headquarters and the Kennedy Center, Trump has alluded to slapping his name on Dulles International Airport in Virginia and the new Commanders’ Stadium in Southeast D.C.
