The Secret Service announced significant road closures in downtown Washington through Friday ahead of President Donald Trump’s state dinner with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the Waldorf Astoria.
Commuters can expect rolling closures between Joint Base Andrews and the downtown area during the Wednesday commute as part of a series of security measures for Xi’s state visit.
Pennsylvania Ave. between Ninth and 13th Streets NW and 12th Street between Constitution Avenue and E Street NW are closed until 5 p.m. Friday, according to the Metropolitan Police Department. Drivers should also avoid the 12th Street tunnel and downtown portions of 10th and 11th streets, which will also be closed in segments.
Additional closures Thursday will affect Constitution Avenue between 14th and 18th streets NW, along with 15th and 17th streets between Independence Avenue SW and H Street NW, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, officials will close the Ninth Street tunnel and stretches of Constitution and Pennsylvania avenues from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Police warned that vehicles violating emergency parking restrictions will be ticketed and towed.
