A major runway was again open at Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport after several flights were delayed or canceled Tuesday night when a lighting equipment failure forced the Federal Aviation Administration to issue a ground stop, according to DCA officials.
At around 10:20 p.m., officials announced that crews had restored the malfunctioning runway lights, but warned travelers to expect residual delays throughout the night.
According to FAA alerts, the lighting system on the airport’s busiest and longest runway was not working, forcing authorities to issue significant delays.
The FAA halted all flights departing to DCA through 10:30 p.m., causing airlines to cancel over 43 flights, with departures delayed by about an hour on average, according to FlightAware.
