A fire destroyed the dining room of La Bonne Vache, a French bistro in Georgetown, on Sunday night, displacing two adults who lived upstairs from the restaurant.
According to social media posts from D.C. Fire and EMS Department, the fire was contained to the first floor, where responders found smoke and an electrical panel on fire. No injuries were reported, but two people who lived above the restaurant were displaced.
The fire department responded to the three-story building in the 3200 block of Prospect St. NW at 9:33 p.m., half an hour after the restaurant closed, a D.C. Fire spokesperson said.
The Red Cross and the Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services were assisting the two residents, D.C. Fire said in a post.

The Red Cross told The Washington Sun that disaster response volunteers provided one of the residents with financial assistance and mental health support. The Mayor’s Office of Community Relations and Services did not respond to a request for comment.
La Bonne Vache’s co-owner Ari Wilder told Washingtonian in a text that they are “trying to wrap our heads around everything while prioritizing staff.” He added that his wife and business partner, Claire Wilder, is setting up a GoFundMe to support their employees. The couple opened the restaurant in January 2024.
The Washington Sun could not reach the owners before publication.
The fire comes nearly three weeks after a fire in a vacant apartment above The Royal led to water damage to its dining room, forcing the restaurant to close for over a week.
