President Donald Trump accused Sen. John Cornyn and Republican strategist Karl Rove of undermining Ken Paxton’s bid for Senate, saying the pair “should be ashamed of themselves” in a Truth Social post Thursday.

“Sadly, and very stupidly,” Trump wrote, “John Cornyn, and his Liddle’ Buddy, Super RINO, Karl Rove, are doing everything possible to make it hard for Ken Paxton, the Greatest Attorney General in the History of Texas, and one of the Best in the United States, to win the upcoming Midterm Election against a Radical Left Lunatic.”

Trump urged Republicans to unite behind Paxton, the Texas attorney general, over Democratic challenger James Talarico. Republicans are spending heavily to defend the Senate seat that could help determine control of the upper chamber.

Paxton defeated Cornyn, a four-term senator, in May’s Republican runoff with Trump’s backing. Cornyn has pledged support for the Republican ticket but has not endorsed Paxton directly. Rove, who was a top aide to President George W. Bush, has argued that Paxton’s scandals have given Talarico a chance to flip the state.
