NOTUS has hired veteran journalist Deirdre Walsh to serve as a senior editor managing NOTUS’ Capitol Hill team.

Walsh, currently a congressional correspondent for NPR, regularly appears across the network’s programs and podcasts. She joined NPR in 2018 as its Congress editor.

Before that, she was a senior congressional producer and reporter at CNN, where she played a critical role coordinating CNN’s Hill team. In 2012, Walsh, alongside CNN’s Dana Bash, was awarded the Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress. She also won the Joan S. Barone Award for excellence in Washington-based congressional or political reporting for her work exposing a loophole in the STOCK Act. She began her nearly 18-year tenure at the network as a producer of “Inside Politics” with Judy Woodruff.

In 2018, she was elected president of the board of directors for the Washington Press Club Foundation.

“I am thrilled Deirdre is bringing her vast expertise and skill to NOTUS,” said Managing Editor Kate Nocera. “Her drive to break compelling stories and explain the impact and real-world consequences of policies — no matter the platform — is unmatched. She is one of the most respected journalists in Washington, and I can’t wait to have her shape our congressional coverage.”

Walsh added: “The team at NOTUS has already proven to be ahead of the curve — breaking big news and reporting distinctive political and policy stories on the Hill. I’m really looking forward to joining them.”

She will start in January 2026.

About NOTUS:
NOTUS is a newsroom like no other: a mix of veteran reporters and editors working with some of the country’s most promising up-and-coming reporters — individuals from different regions, backgrounds and beliefs who have come to Washington as fellows at the Allbritton Journalism Institute.

Together, we cover government and politics with the fresh eyes of newcomers and the expertise of veterans. We call it like we see it, no matter whose narrative it fits or how many clicks it will get.
