Longtime activist Analilia Mejia proclaimed victory on Tuesday in the Democratic primary for New Jersey’s 11th Congressional District, a tight race that has yet to be called five days after the election.
Her comments came a few hours after her top opponent, former Rep. Tom Malinowski, conceded.
“I want to set the record straight — for 10 weeks, we knew we were behind,” Mejia said Tuesday afternoon, surrounded by supporters holding signs and chanting. “We didn’t have the infrastructure that the machinery would offer. We didn’t have the millions of dollars that our opponents had. I mean, we knew we would be outspent 10 to one. What I knew we had was the ability to organize.”
